After a sudden and serious medical problem, Mr. S was released from the hospital with a long recovery still ahead of him. As a man who lived alone and had always managed his own affairs, he now had both physical and mild cognitive impairment; his greatest concern was that he would lose track of his finances.
Senior Care Management made sure that didn’t happen. Our staff met with Mr. S, and gained a clear understanding of his concerns. With Mr. S’s full participation, we developed a system to make sure all of his financial and administrative needs were met: that his bills were accurate and paid on time, that his health insurance claims were correctly processed, and that his tax and other important documents were organized and accessible.
“I would sit with him a once a week, and we’d go through the list of what he needed,’’ said SCM’s Michelle Kunz. “I’d say, `We’re going to talk to Comcast and to AT&T and make sure you have the right services. We’re going to make sure your car insurance and your Home Owner’s Association get paid, and by the way, how is your car?’ ’’ Michelle also helped him through the process of getting 24/7 home care approved through his long-term care insurance.
“He knows he can rely on us to get it done, and he doesn’t worry anymore,’’ Michelle said. “That is the goal.’’
